Con Funk (Or Why I Haven't Had Any New Content)

The largest and most amazing convention on the East Coast took place this past weekend, commonly known as Dragon*Con. Yours truly took a trip to the Mecca of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and other geekdoms in order to experience all there was to experience. Also, it was a (much needed) vacation. Forget that other thing (expo starts with an E, not an X!) and join me on a tour of what was a fantastic excuse not to write anything for the past week and a half.

To begin with, this convention was extraordinary for myself because it is the place where I proposed to my lovely fiancĂ©e a year ago. It was a really cool moment that we won't relive here because if you wanted to see it you already did, and if you don't care then you don't want to see it. However, there were many guests that were relevant and we do need to here about. One such guest was this years Guest of Honor, Mr. Stan Lee. Yes, our beloved Generalissimo was present and put on quite a show. My only regret is not having the cash to attend the $450 VIP Dinner with him, as that may have well pushed me into a cooler social group than I am comfortable being in.

Gaming related guests were not as plentiful as the other convention (though there were quite a few highlights, Mr. Nukem), but of note were the guys from MechCorps  who brought out their pods for some Battletech Robot vs. Robot action. I placed first in my game with a Madcat and had a blast with the really unique setup. My pictures of inside the pod didn't really turn out all that well, but trust me when I say that this is something that you should check out if given the chance.

Also of note is that I visited a place lovingly called The Hall of Virgins, but is listed in the program as the gaming room. Here I got to experience (for the first time) tabletop gaming. I know, -10 geek cred. However, this is being remedied in two weeks as we kick off our first session! Still debating how we will document this, but rest assured that there will be a full report coming up. For now, if there are any suggestions for a starting group then send them my way!

I could keep going on and on over the various geekout moments I had, such as bumping into Summer Glau in a hallway, but I figure it is best to keep it gaming related. It was a much needed trip, and now I can hardly contain myself waiting for the 25th Anniversary coming up next year! Stay tuned this week for a review of Valkyria Chronicles 2, a retro review of Neverwinter Nights 2, and some highlights of this past week's PAX and the TGS this weekend!
